Deep Thoughts, by Laurel

Some random questions swimming around my brain tonight:

1. Have they done something to Jennie Garth's front teeth? On Dancing...Stars (yes, I know that I am too young to be watching this show. It's like Lawrence Welk on Speed, right? But I have fond memories of watching Lawrence Welk with my Grandmother.) Anyway, on Dancing she looks like she hasn't gotten used to her new teeth yet; have you noticed? She's always sucking on them, and they look a little big for her head. What gives? She's such a pretty girl. Why mess?

2. Will I ever get my son to wear anything but the Spiderman costume I bought for Halloween? It's been 3 days now. And why did I let him wear it so early? Because...he...wanted...to?

3. What am I going to do for fun with the kids over fall break? Any suggestions?

4. Does my dog know she needs a good grooming (seriously--she's beginning to sport poodle dreadlocks)? And does it effect her self-esteem? I know I need a good grooming, and I'm a bit low about it.

5. Plastic surgery--not the grooming I was talking about, just in general--for or against?

If you have the answers or even an opinion, please feel free to weigh in.

Oh, I always let me kids wear their Halloween costumes early....and later. Bubba's STILL wearing Superman from last year.

Plastic surgery? On the face? Against. Everybody always ends up looking the same. Plastic. On the rest of the body? Maybe. I wouldn't say no to some lipo or a boob job if someone wanted to give it to me.

I am a stickler about no costumes before Halloween. Mean mom here! But after, it goes into the dress-up trunk and as we all know, gets worn at the store (but not church!).

Gonna have to say no to the surgery route for many reasons. I just think I have seen 1000 too many boob jobs. I mean, do people think that we CAN'T tell when they have double D cantalopes on their size 0 frame that they spent money. And I mean, come on! I love how it is such a status symbol. Like any of us can't go out and spend $5000. Cause in today's day and age, they just charge it anyway. So even a welfare mom can get her boob job. It's just so goofy.

That being said, I'm certainly not going be a raunchy judgemental flat-chested wench (contrary to what previous paragraph may indicate). Just a smug self-righteous flat-chested wanna-be.

J/K! Really, to each his own. I'm just alarmed by the growing trend in the Utah wards. What gives? Why can't they all compete to be the nicest person instead of having the biggest boobs? If they're going to compete at all (but we all know that they will).

PS: BIG comment. Sorry. And also if you have a boob job I'll still be your friend. See? I'm just a flat-chested wannabe!

No boob job here. Although I wanted a reduction for the longest time. No, the plastic surgery thing is something my friends and I were talking about last night, and I am trying to get my thoughts straight on it.

I love hearing everyone's opinion.

When people change their teeth I can't help but stare...a relative of mine has new teeth and when he was talking I could not take my eyes off his mouth.

Plastic surgery isn't for me, but I have no problem with it. If it makes you feel better go for it.

LOL! Nice to meet you "L-ah-rel" Hmmm...I like to think my name is pronounced similar to how you would pronounce "aura" (minus the a at the end...cause my name ain't Laura...darn it all!) But I think it's an East coast/West coast thing 'cause I hated going west have having people call me "Laahhhrrel" like all drawn out with the ahhhhrr. But I think as long as they don't call me "Lauren, Laura, Lori, or Larry" I'm Ok with it all ;)

Oh and P.S....groom that dog (therapy is expensive), keep those boobs, and maybe get a spiderman costume for yourself...it could be fun!

I live in Utah- and I want to clarify that not all Utah wards are having a boob job trend... I have been in two wards- and I don't know of one person who has one... but I have heard that it goes on somewhere around here.. I don't have hard evidence, though.. (like the pun?) Anyways- to each his own- but this is something I struggle with - and it is a touchy subject because it seems to be very acceptable... so I will say- it is not for me....

Wow! See all the Laurel's I've bumped into recently? How funny is that? Now it looks like I'm commenting on my own blog like crazy. Just to clarify: 3 different Laurels, 1 really terrific name.

I had to hide my kids costumes this year...the costumes aren't THAT well made and I could just see them ending up with just bits and pieces of batman and hello kitty butterfly princess...though of course they HAD to wear them that first day after we bought them...

Plastic surgery? wish I could afford some. I would do tummy tuck, lipo, botox, boob lift & augmentation. you probably did not want to know all that! so I am very pro.
halloween costumes? let'em wear it. eventually it gets old--far quicker for you than for them, but eventually it does happen. Bookey wore her piglet costume long before and after halloween last year and frequently slept in it, wore it to walmart, etc.
I think halloween costumes fall under "and the wisdom to know the difference".

Tee hee Katie. I know it's not everywhere, cause I have too many great friends there that haven't. But I have to tell you that when I visited last summer, I had THREE separate people tell me about their wards and every one of them mentioned the huge trend towards doing this. That they felt like the only ones left who hadn't. I couldn't believe how many times I heard this last summer. Too weird.

The teeth thing - I totally noticed and I think it's weird she messed with them

groom your dog

I totally let my kids wear their costumes - I like to get my moneys worth.

As far as plastic surgery goes - you will probably think me a hypocrite. I mock all those women out there with DD's. I think they are absurd - boobs just don't look like that. On the other hand, after I was done having babies, nature played a dirty trick on me and I am a negative A-. I have considered plastic surgery to restore the small B I once was. I don't think anyone would notice as I wear a padded bra all the time. But in private moments, my hubby would notice and that wouldn't be a bad thing. Could I actually pull the trigger - I don't know, but if I did, I somehow justify that I am not as lame as the DD girl strutting her stuff.

this is a great post. love all the topics. i will say i really don't care about plastic surgery, but if it is in my face plastic surgery and ridiculous its annoying.

Teeth: From the outside, it always looks like over-sized teeth is a uniquely American thing.

Your Dog: Probably doesn't care, but is likely to thank you afterwards.

Plastic Surgery: What is it with women and boob jobs? Why do you think you need to make them bigger? Why do you think we like them bigger? In general, a little plastic surgery is fine. The problem is knowing where and when to stop.
